Thirteen new interns began their spring semester employment with the SouthCoast Energy Challenge on Valentines Day. Among them were 3 Bristol Community College students: Mara Delgado, Patrick Fagundes, and Catherine Toste. Mara is studying Liberal Arts and Environmental Sciences, Patrick is studying Civil Engineering and Catherine is studying Biology.
They will be attending events throughout the region to educate residents on ways to save money by saving energy. The SouthCoast Energy Challenge is a friendly competition among towns with the goal of reducing energy use in the SouthCoast by 15% during the next 3 years. The Challenge guides individuals and families to take personal actions to reduce their carbon footprint. Besides signing up for the Challenge and learning energy-saving actions, residents can be eligible for no-cost home energy assessments that have a value of up to $600. So far over 8,300 residents are participating in the Challenge and the 13 spring interns have a combined goal of increasing that number by 3,000 before June first.
