Community Manager Diana Painter trained 13 new interns who began their employment with the SouthCoast Energy Challenge on Valentine’s Day. The newcomers join 3 lead interns and 2 former interns who had been promoted. Julia Bartholomew is continuing as the Events Coordinator, and Crystal Cruz is continuing as Assistant Manager. Ken Holloway, Dustin Rodriguez, and Andrew Briter-Wu have been promoted to Lead Interns for the spring. The new interns attend schools in the region, including UMASS Dartmouth, Bristol Community College and Bridgewater State. They immediately began outreach to residents in 27 towns to reach their combined goal of adding 3,000 new members to the Challenge by the beginning of June.
If you haven’t yet signed up for the Challenge or haven’t had your no-cost home energy assessment yet, this eager group would be happy to sign you up. Besides helping the region to lower our collective carbon footprint, each intern is working on a personal sustainability goal for the semester. Helping with campus bike groups, switching off power strips, reducing single-use disposable products and learning to cook in order to eat more meals at home are some of the intentions.
