Get with the Program! Use a Programmable Thermostat

Money Saved: $497

Energy Saved: 90 lbs CO2

There’s no reason to spend money to heat or cool your house when there is no one home to enjoy it! Using a programmable thermostat allows you to program your heat in advance to match your weekly schedule. Set your thermostat to lower the heat by 10°-12° for the 8 hours or so that everyone is out during the day. Also, consider reducing the heat by a few degrees while you’re sleeping at night to keep your family comfortable without over-spending. If you don’t have a programmable thermostat yet, you have a few options:

You can be extra vigilant about turning the heat down each time you leave the house.
You can purchase a digital thermostat yourself (usually between $25-100 dollars, depending how fancy you go).
Or, you can get a Mass Save home energy assessment, and receive a delightful, digital thermostat at no cost to you or your landlord, if you are a renter! Now that’s what we call a deal!
Get with the program, and reduce your heating bills today!
