Eating locally grown food can protect the environment? You can do that too!

Everyone likes healthy food every day. When you get the organic food from the supermarket, do you ever consider that is local food grown in somewhere else? Well, don’t hesitate to try our local food. Eating local, it’s good for your health, diet and the environment!

1. Locally Grown Food Tastes Better

Do you ever try the fresh vegetables and meat from a farm? Farmers who sell direct to local consumers don’t need to give priority to packing and shipping. Eating local also means eating seasonally, follow the law of nature is better than anything!

2. Eat Locally Grown Food for Better Health

“Even when it’s not always organic, small farms tend to be less aggressive than large factory farms about dousing their wares with chemicals.” says CNAD, protecting biodiversity and preserving a wider agricultural gene pool, an important factor in long-term food security.

3. Eat Locally Grown Food to Help the Economy

Farmers on average receive only 20 cents of each food dollar spent, the rest going for transportation, processing, packaging, refrigeration and marketing. However, farmers who sell food to local customers receive the full retail value.  It’s good for our economy, and it’s good for us too!

4. Eat Locally Grown Food to Reduce Global Warming

Research suggests that the average fresh food on our dinner table travels 1,500 miles to get there, that’s a lot of carbon dioxide emissions every day! Buying locally produced food can reduce the need for all that transportation.
